Life is Protected

Defending the Sanctity of Life from Conception to Natural Death

Life: Sacred and Precious

Every human life is created in the image of God and is therefore sacred and worthy of protection. From the moment of conception until natural death, life has inherent value and dignity. At City Elders, we are committed to protecting the most vulnerable among us—the unborn, the elderly, the disabled, and all those whose lives are threatened.

Psalm 139:13-16 (NIV)
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

Protecting the Unborn

Life Begins at Conception

Science confirms what Scripture teaches: human life begins at conception. From that moment, a unique human being with their own DNA exists and deserves full protection under the law. We oppose abortion in all circumstances and work to create a culture where every child is welcomed and protected.

The Right to Life

The Declaration of Independence states that we are endowed by our Creator with the right to life. This is the most fundamental of all rights—without life, no other rights matter. We believe that the right to life extends to the unborn, who are the most vulnerable members of our society.

Supporting Women and Families

We recognize that many women facing unplanned pregnancies feel afraid and alone. True compassion means supporting both mother and child. We support pregnancy resource centers, adoption services, and programs that help women choose life while providing the support they need.

Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

Protecting Life at Every Stage

Opposing Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide

We oppose efforts to legalize euthanasia or physician-assisted suicide. Every life has value, even in suffering. Instead of ending lives, we should provide compassionate care, pain management, and support for families caring for loved ones at the end of life.

Protecting the Elderly and Disabled

The elderly and disabled are often devalued in our culture, but they are made in God's image and deserve protection and respect. We oppose any policy or practice that treats these vulnerable populations as burdens or seeks to end their lives prematurely.

Medical Ethics

We support medical practices that preserve and protect life, not those that intentionally end it. This includes opposing the use of embryonic stem cells (which requires destroying human embryos) while supporting ethical alternatives like adult stem cell research.

Building a Culture of Life

Changing Hearts and Minds

Laws alone cannot create a culture of life. We must change hearts and minds, helping people understand the value of every human life. This includes sharing the truth about fetal development, showing compassion to those who have had abortions, and celebrating the gift of life.

Supporting Life-Affirming Alternatives

We support and promote alternatives to abortion, including adoption, foster care, and programs that help families in crisis. We also support policies that make it easier for families to choose life, such as tax credits for families, paid family leave, and support for single mothers.

Protecting Conscience Rights

Healthcare workers should never be forced to participate in procedures that end life, including abortion or assisted suicide. We support conscience protection laws that allow medical professionals to practice according to their deeply held beliefs.

How City Elders Protects Life

City Elders councils work to protect life by:

  • Supporting pro-life legislation at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Electing leaders who will protect the unborn and vulnerable
  • Opposing funding for organizations that perform or promote abortion
  • Supporting pregnancy resource centers and adoption services
  • Educating communities about the value of every human life
  • Praying for an end to abortion and for healing for those affected by it

The Biblical Foundation for Life

Scripture is clear that human life is sacred because we are made in God's image. This truth should shape how we view every person, regardless of their age, ability, or stage of development. When we understand that every life has eternal value, we cannot remain silent when lives are threatened.

Genesis 1:27 (NIV)
"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

Because every person is made in God's image, every life deserves protection. This is not a political issue—it is a fundamental truth about human dignity and worth. We will continue to fight for the protection of all human life until every life is valued and protected.
