Liberty Defended
Protecting Our God-Given Rights and Constitutional Freedoms
Liberty: A Gift from God
True liberty comes from God, not from government. Our nation was founded on the principle that we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. At City Elders, we are committed to defending these God-given freedoms against all who would seek to restrict or remove them.
Galatians 5:1 (NIV)
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."
Religious Liberty: Our First Freedom
The Right to Worship Freely
The First Amendment guarantees our right to freely exercise our religion. This means we can worship, pray, and live according to our faith without government interference. We oppose any attempt to restrict religious expression, whether in public spaces, schools, or the workplace.
Protecting Churches and Ministries
Churches and Christian ministries must be free to operate according to their biblical convictions. This includes the right to hire staff who share their values, to speak truth without fear of government retaliation, and to serve their communities without being forced to violate their beliefs.
Standing Against Religious Discrimination
We oppose any form of religious discrimination, whether it targets Christians specifically or seeks to silence people of faith in the public square. Religious liberty is not just for private worship—it extends to how we live, work, and serve in society.
Defending Our Constitutional Rights
Freedom of Speech
The First Amendment protects our right to speak truth, even when that truth is unpopular. We stand against censorship, cancel culture, and any attempt to silence voices that speak biblical truth or conservative values.
Second Amendment Rights
The right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental right that protects all other rights. We support responsible gun ownership and oppose efforts to disarm law-abiding citizens, which would leave them vulnerable to criminals and tyrannical government.
Property Rights
Property rights are essential to liberty. We oppose government overreach that seizes private property, restricts property use without just cause, or uses eminent domain to benefit private interests rather than the public good.
Due Process and Equal Protection
Every American deserves equal treatment under the law, regardless of race, religion, or political views. We oppose discriminatory policies, whether they come from government or corporations, that treat people differently based on their beliefs or identity.
Threats to Liberty We Face Today
Government Overreach
We see increasing attempts by government at all levels to control more aspects of our lives—from what we can say, to how we can worship, to what medical decisions we can make. We stand against this expansion of government power and work to restore proper limits on government authority.
Corporate Censorship
Big Tech and corporate America are increasingly working to silence conservative voices and Christian values. We support efforts to hold these entities accountable and to ensure that all Americans have equal access to platforms and services.
Election Integrity
Free and fair elections are essential to liberty. We work to ensure that elections are secure, transparent, and accessible to all eligible voters. This includes supporting voter ID laws, opposing ballot harvesting, and ensuring that every legal vote counts.
Border Security
A nation without secure borders cannot remain free. We support strong border security and immigration policies that protect our nation's sovereignty while welcoming those who come legally and share our values.
How City Elders Defends Liberty
City Elders councils work to protect liberty by:
- Electing leaders who respect constitutional limits on government power
- Opposing legislation that restricts religious freedom or free speech
- Supporting policies that protect individual rights and property rights
- Monitoring government actions and holding officials accountable
- Educating citizens about their rights and how to protect them
- Building coalitions to defend liberty at the local, state, and national levels
The Foundation of True Liberty
True liberty is not license to do whatever we want. It is the freedom to do what is right, to live according to God's design, and to fulfill the purposes for which we were created. When we understand that our rights come from God, not government, we can better defend them against those who would take them away.
2 Corinthians 3:17 (NIV)
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."
As believers, we have been set free from sin and death through Christ. This spiritual freedom should inspire us to work for political and social freedom, ensuring that all people can live according to God's truth without government oppression.
